Climbing and running with KORI Coyote

Martina Larsson climbinb in Kullaberg, Sweden

A greeting from our Martina Larsson, who spent a day climbing at "Kullen" in Sweden:

"I had good use of the Kori back protector, in a convenient and easy way I could pack my climbing gear in the backpack, helmet, shoes, harness, also got room left for an extra sweater, fruit, 2 water bottles. It has a wonderful volume. I have highlighted the spaciousness before but i would really want to emphasize it! The space is unbeatable!

After climbing I got new energy and took a run home. In my experience it is surprisingly light and easy to run with the kori back protector. When I ran, I used it as a backpack, I had no climbing gear but I had water and a spare shirt with me. The waist strap gave an incredible good support and the backpack was stable! So, I definitely think you should go out on a run with kori back protector!"

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

We often get sort of the same questions regarding the KORI Coyote concept, here are some answers to the most common questions:

Do I wear KORI under the jacket?
Yes. For optimal protection the back protectors are worn underneith the jacket, as close to your spine as possible. KORI back protectors includes D3O Viper PRO which is the absolute softest and most flexible back protector so you do not have to worry about the feeling of having a hard and limiting protection when you're driving - it' should be comfortable to have a back protection on!

Isn’t it warm to wear a back protector under the jacket?
Sure it gets warmer to have a back protector compared to having a loose back plate in the jacket. But KORI is well ventilated and have a 3D-structures polyester mesh against your back that allows the moist air to vent away from the body. However, it is important to also have good material in the clothes you are wearing under the protection.

Can you really put a whole motorcycle equipment in the backpack?
Absolutely! Jacket, pants and a helmet goes down the back protector when it is folded out as a backpack, it may be difficult to understand that an entire motorcycle equipment fits inside a backpack, but we have proven and surprised many with the volume that KORI can provide when it is folded out.
Read an example here!

Can you find KORI without the backpack part?
Sure! We are expanding our product range, KORI Ocelot is a new back protector coming soon. It is for those who do not feel they have the need for backpack but still want to be able to get the comfortable and flexibile properties of KORI's back protector with its comfortable strapping and flexible D3O material! Learn more about KORI Ocelot here!

Why does KORI costs more than other back protectors?
KORI is simply better than all others in every way! Firstly, we make sure that all our products have unique design solutions and features that our competitors do not have, both in function, fit and durability. We also make sure to maintain the highest quality in all our production. All our products are made in Sweden, with the quality and the environmental impact that we feel that we can stand for!

Why have not I heard of KORI before?
KORI is a new concept, a new brand and a brand new company. We came out on the market in 2012 and we spread slowly and surely over the world. We have decided that instead of spending large budgets on offensive marketing, we focus on being responsive to what the market demands and work to meet it through innovative design thinking and optimal solutions – and that way you finally find us anyway!

"Comfortable to wear and with an exquisite sense of material."

Kori - smart Swedish back protector with integrated backpack
Kori - smart Swedish back protector with integrated backpack

Kori has been in another product review, this time by Hagen Hoppe who is the editor of BUMSEN, BMW club members magazine. We are pleased that Hagen seemed convinced and satisfied with our KORI and he summerize s the back protector with three words:
Multilateral
Feeling of quality
Locally produced in Sweden

Observe correction in article: We only recommended to drive with KORI, folded  and flat, inside your jacket. If KORI is used as a backpack while driving, it is very important to note that the protective properties are significantly reduced and you should supplement with additional protection inside the jacket or in the jacket. This is mainly due to that the position over the spine can not be assured when placed on the outside of the motorcyclejacket, even the contents of the backpack affect the backprotectors protective properties.

A real backprotector and... backpack!

KORI review in the motorcycle magazine Moto73 in Netherlands.
kori rug beschermer zak kori back protector backpack moto 73

Back Protective bag
See here a real back protector and ... backpack! It is called D3O Viper Pro. It is a back protector that you put on like a backpack: including chest strap and a flexible belt around the waist, which you can easily attach with Velcro. You wear your motorcycle equipment over it, from which you of course remove the built-in protection, if possible. The back protector meets all requirements for materials and protection (EN 1621-2, level 2, the highest possible). It feels comfortable and keeps your back warm. One advantage at high temperatures can be felt as a drawback: despite the airy material you get at temperatures above 25 degrees anyway once a sweaty back. The back protection is removable and the rest is then washable. I met the creator and the motorcyclist Sophie von Wachenfeldt in Sweden, where she lives and works. "I never knew where I would leave my stuff when I took a motorcycle tour." explaining how she has come to this. And so evolved the idea: This back protector is also a backpack. And it easily adapts to what you put in it. An extra sweater, a newspaper or when taking a walk in a city, if needed, your whole motorcycle equipment, including helmet! With the continuous "lacing" Kori becomes exactly the size needed. Weight of this back protection Viper Pro is be between 1170 and 1450 grams, depending on which of the three available sizes you need.
I have tested the Viper Pro for a few thousand miles. It feels excellent comfortable. And as a backpack KORI Viper Pro also works excellent. A whole motorcycle equipment fits inside, when you want to visit something. But you can also get your papers and a camera with you on your bike.

Rug beschermer zak

Back protector – Smart design.

New test of the KORI back protector backpack made by the magazine ATV!

“We recently received a back protector and I have now had the chance to test it for some weeks. I really like the idea behind it. I am concerned about safety and uses the best possible protection of my work here at the magazine, but also private and being able to take off the back protector and use this as a backpack is smart. It actually works very well with many clever details. The back protector itself has the highest the level of protection that you can have. Kori has collaborated with d3o and this material d3o supplies are very smooth, it was nice way to carry the back protector when weighs almost nothing, while it provides the best possible protection against accidents.”

KORI in SNOWMOBILE nr 6

kori genialiskt ryggskydd med inbygg ryggsäck
The text in english (from the swedish magazine) Snowmobile:

”Ingenious back protector with built-in backpack
This autumn I heard of the Swedish KORI, which at first looks like a common back protector. But when you look closer you discover a pair of zippers, and when you open those, the protector transforms into a backpack. Ingenious!
For best fitting and safety, KORI exists in three sizes: small, medium and large. As I already stated above, KORI is thus something as ingenious as a back protector with an integrated backpack.

CE-certified protector
Starting with the protector itself, it is CE-certified, 1621-2, Level 2. To meet these standards, the back protector must protect the spine and the soft tissue against shocks and knocks. To get certified according to the higher standard, Level 2, the energy from the test hits should correspond to 50 Joules. On the inside of the protector, the average value of the impact from all the hits (at least five different points), should not exceed 9 kilo newton.
KORI has chosen to bet on the protection material D3O Viper Pro for the back protector. Although it feels alarmingly soft when you touch it, it has a surprisingly good ability to damp the energy from shocks and knocks.

Adjustable storage space

When you've unfolded the backpack it offers 30, 35 or 38 liters of storage space, depending on which size of the KORI you've chosen. With some elastic drawstrings, you can adjust the pack so that it's conforms exactly to its contents and does not flap.

The material is made of a durable and somewhat "slippery" nylon fabric, easy to keep clean. Right through, the back protector/backpack feels of very high quality with nice details. Proper straps eith a body-belt, ensure that KORI fits like a glove.

Small compartments and cargo loops missing
The backpack consists of only one big pack. Personally, I would like to have at least one small compartment for little things and some loops for a spade and other.

Moreover, I think that the cover has its faults. It is closed with a drawstring and Velcro and if you're not careful with folding the upper part of the pack (as on a canoe pack), snow and water easily can find its way into the pack.

Apart from these details, KORI is an ingenious innovation which, with some refinement, is a supreme product. KORI costs 4000 kr. More information at

Peter on snowmobile adventure

kori back protector on a snowmobile

kori back protector on a snowmobile
Peter Granbrant, a keen snowmobiler from Norrbotten, will be testing KORI in different types of snowmobiling. He previously has bad experience from back protectors and has therefore been snowmobiling without for many years. Peter got interested in the KORI concept that includes the soft and flexible D3O-protector. As a former motorcyclist, Peter draws quite a lot of parallels between motorcycling and snowmobiling.

The first day with KORI on, and on his way to a snowmobile event a couple of Swedish miles away, he very soon gets the confirmation of having made the right choice today, wearing a back protector.

500 meters from home, and after a few tenth of a second of inattention, one of the skis plunges into the snow. The snowmobile stops and overturns and Peter is thrown off at nearly 100km/h. After two solid impacts on the back, he stands up, establishes that he is ok and continues his journey, wondering: “Karma or KORI?”

When arriving at the event, Peter sure had a lot to tell =). He feels that the interest for protection among snowmobilers has grown.

In the evening, the back felt a little stiff but the next morning, Peter basically felt nothing at all. So he took a trip up the Stor Jons Berget. No “stunts” this time =) but a rather sweaty off-road drive upwards the 250 meters high mountain.

At the summit, Peter was surprised that he wasn’t the least wet-sweaty on his back (which he had been before with other protectors). Peter wore KORI for 8 hours without taking it off, despite coffee and talk pauses with people all along the way. He feels that the protector keeps his back warm enough when he takes a pause and that it’s flexible.

We are very happy that the KORI-protector arrived in time!

The best back protector on the market – Teaser

We just released a short video-teaser! Take a look!

Back in the garage…

This time it might look like we were preparing to start up a garden centre, but no, KORI has not changed path yet… we were actually measuring the volume of KORI as a back pack and its different sizes – before we knew that it was big, now we know exactly how big!
S: 30L
M: 35L
L: 38L
A happy result – who could have imagined such volume from something that seems to be totally flat??
